Onlyfans have just announced that they are suspending their planned ban on sexually explicit content. This means there is no change and we can all continue to post sexually explicit content just as we did before.
I hadn't even finished writing this blog before they posted a Twitter update so some parts of this post may no longer apply. However, a lot of what I detail is still valid and I would recommend you continue to follow some of the advice given.
I will probably post further updates on this news as there are some key points that need to be addressed.
One thing to take note of right now though is that in their Tweet they state that they are 'SUSPENDING' the planned changes to their Acceptable Use Policy.
This actually worries me a little in that a suspension only means that it will be delayed and not revoked. We could still be in the same position we were at any point in the future should they decide to lift the suspension.
It is for this reason the information below is still relevant and could well be worth acting on to protect yourself should this situation arise again.
Please remember that all the information and recommendations I provide are just that, they are my personal views and should be used for informational purposes only.
If you are thinking of leaving Onlyfans since they announced their new Acceptable Use Policy and the ban on sexually explicit content then I urge you not to.
I fully understand if your initial reaction to this news is to leave Onlyfans immediately and find an alternative platform, one that welcomes SW'ers. However, I believe this would be a rash and costly decision that you can avoid.
I am not for a single second suggestion you continue to run your Onlyfans accounts as you did before (albeit without the sexually explicit content). I am in complete agreement with the whole SW'er community that Onlyfans have yet again stabbed us in the back and are treating us with total disregard!
But, I believe to just up and leave everything you have built on Onlyfans not only makes it easy on Onlyfans but also causes us, as creators, more harm than good.
Let me ask you a question.
Do you feel like that you have been betrayed and that all of your efforts in building your Onlyfans profiles, bringing fans to the website and building Onlyfans to a Billion Dollar website have gone to waste?
Yes, would be the answer I have no doubt. So let, me ask another.
Do you think you would be wise to just walk away and abandon all that effort?
No, I hope would be your answer!
So, what is the answer, what should we do?
Well, it's my belief that we can have our cake and eat it if we take a little time to put a plan together that not only allows us to continue on Onlyfans but to use it to build our 'sexually explicit' pages on other platforms.
What I am suggesting is
NOT about supporting Onlyfans, quite the opposite on fact. I am suggestion we use what we have built to take back what is rightly ours!
We brought the fans to Onlyfans.
We brought other creators to Onlyfans.
We created the content that kept the fans on Onlyfans.
We were the one's that posted the content on Onlyfans that brought them a ton of money in subscriptions.
We were the creators that sold Pay Per View content, swelling Onlyfans bank account even more.
We were also the creators that spent hours, weeks, months and even years working our asses off making custom content, chatting and sexting with fans and purchasing clothing & accessories to do so.
We were the army of creators that also spent so much time promoting Onlyfans on other social media accounts, forums and other groups.
In fact, without us, Onlyfans would never had grown to the size it has and would probably have closed down already!
So why should we just roll over and let them keep it all to themselves while kicking us to the curb? I don't know about you but I have every intention of taking as much as I can from Onlyfans until I have replaced my income on a different platform. I want to take all of my current fans plus more to my new platform.
Then, and only then, will I walk away giving Onlyfans a very solid F*#K YOU as I leave!
Here are my
10 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Quit Onlyfans:
That's right, with lots of creators jumping ship already and lots getting banned for advertising their new platforms it means there will be fewer creators for fans to follow. This is good news for those that are left.
A lot of creators are deleting content, advertising their Onlyfans alternative platforms and spending all of their time trying to get fans to their new platforms. This is only going to hurt them in the long term.
Fans have already paid for content and will get annoyed that the creator they are following isn't providing what they have paid for. This isn't going to help with trying to convince them to move to the new platform.
Fans are going to be in no rush to migrate to another platform when nothing has changed at this point. Sexually explicit content can still be posted and provided so they will be content with waiting until they can no longer get what they want.
So, make sure you are still providing them with all the great content you have always offered until the point you can no longer provide it. You may find you actually start to grow even faster than before this announcement when fans of the creators that have left are looking for new creators to follow.
I still recommend opening 1 or more new accounts on other platforms, but I strongly recommend that you
DO NOT
openly promote them within your Onlyfans account. Whether that be in posts, messages or any other means it is against Onlyfans terms and will result in you getting banned and, what's more, forfeiting any money still held by Onlyfans.
I have already seen many posts on other social medias and in groups I am in of creators that, without warning, have had their accounts banned and have no way of withdrawing the money in their accounts. It really isn't worth the risk.
There are ways around this without blatantly breaking Onlyfans terms so just don't risk it! You can read more on this and also how you can continue (without breaking the new acceptable use policy terms) to post sexually explicit content right up until December 1st
HERE.
Think of it like this:
You are on a ship loaded with tons of gold, the ship begins to leak and threatens to sink, most of the others on board jump into life rafts and abandon ship, you and a few others remain, fix the leak and sail off into the sunset with all the gold!
Certainly until the new rules come into full effect I think we would be silly to leave what money that is still left to be made on the table for others to pick up!
I briefly touched on this in point 1 but there is more to the story.
Onlyfans currently has around 400 million users and 2 million content creators (depending what statistics you go by). If everything was equal that amounts to 200 fans for every 1 creator. That's a lot of fans.
Now, the majority of those fans are not looking to move platforms, certainly not until they absolutely have to. Just like we, as creators, did not want to move platforms either.
Our hand has been forced and this will be the case with fans if they still want to view the type of content that will be totally banned by December 1st. But, right now they don't have to so most won't be moving anywhere just yet.
This means that every creator that leaves Onlyfans is abandoning their fan base, their fan base that is still going to want their needs satisfying. It stands to reason then that those creators that continue to provide a top service will likely start to gain the fans that have been left abandoned.
400 million fans are not going to disappear overnight so why would you want to walk away from them all? Onlyfans is still the largest, by far, of all the platforms that offer the same services and this isn't going to change any time soon.
Finally, I have seen many reports from other creators, that have been sending out and posting their new platform links, complaining that their fans aren't following them to other sites. One had over 4,000 fans on Onlyfans but only 30 had followed her on her new platform even though she sent out a free trial link.
Fans just aren't in as much of a rush as most creators are to leave Onlyfans, so if that isn't a reason to stick around for a while I don't know what is!
That's right, you can still make money on Onlyfans. Why a lot of creators are giving up immediately I do not know? We can still post new sexually explicit content until October 1st (December 1st if you do it the right way!
READ THIS POST to find out how you can post sexually explicit content for the next 3 months or so without breaching Onlyfans new acceptable use policy!).
So, for over a month there are no changes whatsoever and if there are no changes why wouldn't we be able to continue to make money? And, if we can continue to make make why wouldn't we? Why would we just walk away from what could be our last decent pay check for a while?
I don't know about you, but, I do know it took me a while to get going on Onlyfans and build my fan base to a point where I was making a decent income. It will not be any easier on a new platform so use this month or so to cushion the blow and earn some money to keep you going while growing your new page.
Remember, that's just the period we can continue to run our pages with no restrictions, up until October 1st.
You then have another 2 months where you can still show explicit content on your pages, you just cannot upload new content, and (I believe) send out any existing PPV content you have in your vault already.
You will still be able to discuss or sext using sexually explicit content and discuss selling sexually explicit items like used clothing or toys.
So as you can see, for the next 3 months or so we are still in a position where we can make money from our content as we did before. That's a reasonable amount of time to allow yourself to grow and build on other platforms while still having the cushion of some income from whilst you do so.
I firmly believe that we are well within our rights to retain the fans that we have gained since starting on Onlyfans. We worked long and hard to get them and it is not our fault that Onlyfans have changed their terms that has led to us all having to find somewhere else to continue our work.
Had Onlyfans not moved the goal posts on us, once again, we would all be carrying on as normal and wouldn't need to find an alternative platform to Onlyfans to work from.
Obviously one of the main things we not only want, but need, is for our existing fan base to stick with us and follow us to whichever platform we decide to move to. That is a given and should definitely be a main focus when the time comes.
But is that all we want? Of course not, I feel we deserve something by way of compensation for the mistreatment we have received. I think we are well within our rights to try and get more fans to join us on other platforms too!
This can be done through our regular off Onlyfans promotion avenues like Twitter, Reddit etc as well as on Onlyfans.
To do so on other social media sites is easy as we just continue promoting as we did when promoting Onlyfans.
But, how do we do that on Onlyfans?
It isn't going to be easy but if we are still running our pages on Onlyfans as we have been then we should still continue to get new fans subscribing. This could be even easier when you consider points 1 & 2 above.
If you are planning on leaving Onlyfans completely then you could turn your VIP/PAID Onlyfans page to a free page as this will give you a greater chance of getting fans that may not have subscribed to you if you kept a subscription price on your page.
If you are going to try this method then I would wait until close to when you will be leaving as you will want to continue to earn some money from subscriptions up until that point. And who knows? You may even start to make some decent money and decide not to leave at all!
Personally, I think I will try to keep my pages running for as long as I can, mainly to build my fans on other platforms but also to see how it goes with the new policy in place.
The way I view it is that as long as I can still have a page on Onlyfans, even if it is just nude content, then I can still get fans to subscribe and then funnel them towards my new platform. Just use Onlyfans as a free source of new fan traffic and maybe make a few dollars along the way.
We all expect Onlyfans to bottom out and for them to lose fans and creators by the millions but no one knows for sure. What if it continues to grow and we continue to make good money? Do we really want to give that away?
Don't get me wrong, my intention will always be to build on other platforms but I would be 'cutting my nose to spite my face' if I gave up a good income from Onlyfans just because they turned me over. They wouldn't lose as those fans would just find someone else to get their fix, but I would lose even more than I am now with the changes if I just walk away from it.
Now, as angry as I am with Onlyfans I have to ask myself "What would I do if Onlyfans had a change of mind and decided not to introduce the new policy or take it back a little later down the line?".
The honest answer is, I would get straight back to it until I found, and built, on another platform that was performing as well as my Onlyfans accounts have. That is the truth, I want to continue working in this industry and if that means staying where I am then I will.
As I, like others that do this full time, need a certain amount of money to survive and pay my bills I am not going to walk away from it if it's practically guaranteed on Onlyfans to go and struggle on a different platform.
It is a business decision, not a emotional one. If Onlyfans retract the new policy and the fans stay here then where are all the fans going to come from on the other platforms?
It stands to reason that if it returns to as it is right now then Onlyfans will probably remain the largest and most well known of all the fan sites. If that happens then all the money will be on Onlyfans and if that's where the money is, that's where you will find me!
It is for this reason I feel having a little restraint before burning the bridge completely is the best route to take.
A little bit of irony for you. As I was typing this I got a notification on Instagram from the first 'model' on Onlyfans, Dannii Harwood - @missdanniiharwood.
In her story she added 6 screen shots of an article in the
Financial Times. The article covers an interview with Onlyfans founder and CEO Tim Stokely.
It's interesting reading as he is very defensive over the new policy in that he blames the banks and would never have removed the explicit content had it not been for them.
There is a lot said in the article and I would recommend giving it a read to judge for yourself whether you think this could be the foundation of a U-turn in the making? Tim comes across as though he would reinstate the explicit content if a bank that supported the business model was to be found.
Of course this could just be him trying to pass the buck so blame is attributed to the banks and deflected from him and Onlyfans but as he mentions several banks there could be some truth in it.
Unfortunately, the article in the FT can only be read if you have a subscription and I don't want to post the screen shots in case they then have reason to sue me for sharing content that is restricted to those that have paid a subscription to their website. A little like someone sharing our content from our Onlyfans pages.
It may still be viewable on Dannii Harwoods story on Instagram so you could try that, here is her
Instagram LINK if you want to give it a try.
It is certainly worth giving this consideration before deleting your Onlyfans accounts that's for sure.
I really don't understand the mass panic over the changes that are due to come into force.
The very earliest we will see any changes is October 1st, which gives us well over a month to prepare and research where we go from that point.
Yes, I agree that we need to start taking steps to find new platforms to work from but I don't see any reason to either just up and leave Onlyfans (and the fans you have subscribed right now) or to risk being banned from Onlyfans when you still have a lot of time to make some money before you move.
I've lost count of the amount of creators I have seen registering to the first platform they see recommended by someone else and then once verified posting and sharing their new platform links on Onlyfans.
That to me is a huge mistake. Because of the reasons in this post I do not understand why you would risk everything when there is absolutely no reason to do so at this stage. And then, to blindly register for a new platform without looking into it first seems foolish to me.
You wouldn't buy a house without looking at it first so why invest all of your future work into a platform you know nothing about?
It seems the fear of being behind the crowd is driving this panic and spur of the moment decisions but I would recommend giving yourself a little time to look into the platforms first.
Every platform is different and every creator is too, so what works for one may not be suitable for another.
There are so many variables to consider that may make it difficult for you to use the site. For instance, the platforms have different pay out options, different thresholds for withdrawal (minimum before you can withdraw funds), different processing times and different pay out methods.
Then there is the creator, what country are they from, does the site even allow creators from that country, do they only use a specific payment method (Paxum, Stripe etc), can they be anonymous, do they allow PPV content, what content types are not allowed?
All of these differences, and lots more, mean it needs careful consideration before jumping onto a new fan site.
Just remember that we have over 1 month to carry on as normal, with no new restrictions, and then a further 2 months where we can use existing sexually explicit content plus new nude content that falls within the restrictions.
(As mentioned earlier, I do think I have found a way to post new sexually explicit content right up until December 1st that doesn't break the rules. Check out the post HERE for more information - this is only my interpretation so please satisfy yourself first before following the information).
I have included a couple of options on another post with some details of other platforms that I currently use HERE but I will be doing a more in depth post to cover lots of the others too so please bookmark this page so you can come back over the next few days as I post more useful information.
So start thinking and planning but don't be too hasty in your decisions, see what is happening around you and check crucial details first.
How many creators do you know that do not post sexually explicit content? I know quite a few and I know quite a few that are still smashing it on Onlyfans too.
Everyone is hung up over what we cannot post but few are thinking about what we can.
We can still post nude content after December 1st. That means we can still show our bodies naked, we just can't be explicit. All this means is we will have to be a little more inventive with our content to keep the fans happy without breaking Onlyfans new policy rules.
From what I can gather we will still be able to show shower scenes and naked model poses on the bed, for example, these are popular content types that I personally use on a regular basis anyway and these changes won't affect those (as long as you aren't adding in sexually explicit content of course). Sexy is still sexy and your fans will still enjoy posts like that as they always have.
There are also plenty of 'models' on Onlyfans that are very successful with just posting non nude content. If you can get into the minds of fans with your content and captions then sometimes the tease is better than the reveal.
And let's not forget the many fetishes out there that do not require explicit content. Think of the foot fetish market, this is a huge and common fetish that we can all take advantage of. We may not offer it now but what is stopping us adding it to our content base? Who said you must stick to one niche only?
I always advise being as diverse as possible, the more diverse you are the bigger your target audience. Not only does it open up new markets for you but it also makes adding fresh content easier too as you can vary what you post to cater to different tastes.
So, why not do a little research online for fetishes and kinks, those that do not require explicit content, that you may be happy to provide? It could be your best decision yet!
There is a lot of uncertainty about other opportunities like sexting and generally discussing explicit content. I have messaged support several times but either get a copy and paste reply or no reply at all. Either way I don't get a definitive answer.
My interpretation of the new policy would suggest we can't even discuss sexually explicit conduct as there is a section that states 'you can't
refer to sexually explicit conduct' so, for now, I will watch this space until I get something more concrete. But worth thinking about on the off chance it is allowed.
I think it is fair to say that we will be hindered with what we can post but that does not mean we will have our hands completely tied with no avenues to generate an income at all.
If we think a little differently and adapt to the new rules then I see no reason why, at worst, we can't at least make some money, which may be just enough to keep us going while we build our new pages. Or, at best, continue to make a decent income on Onlyfans as well as build our other pages on other sites.
This is a question I get asked regularly - "should I have accounts on more than one website?".
I think, if nothing else, the shenanigans that Onlyfans have put us all through recently have proved to us all that 'putting all of our eggs in one basket' probably isn't the best idea ever.
I have always advised, anyone that asked, to open accounts with other sites similar to Onlyfans.
My main reasoning for this was that we can be banned at anytime without warning.
I am sure you have read and heard about many creators that have lost their accounts (and the money in them) with no notice.
It could have been for a breach of their terms or some report of being banned from Onlyfans with no reason whatsoever. Often made worse by the fact that they either had no response to their support requests or just got a copy and paste response with no real information.
If it can happen to others then it can happen top you so do yourself a favour and protect yourself as much as you can from this situation by having multiple accounts to spread the risk.
Everyone went straight into panic mode when Onlyfans announced the changes to their Acceptable Use Policy and the main reason for that is they only use Onlyfans to work from.
With so many other sites similar to Onlyfans out there I never understand why creators don't use them? There are lots of reasons why you should and none why you shouldn't as far as I can figure out.
I will say that not everyone agrees with me on this, there have been countless debates over this subject and there are lots of others that say you should only use one to make it easier to manage.
Whilst I can see why they would think this and, yes, there will be more work involved but I believe the little extra work you will have to do will be compensated by a lot of extra income and security.
With 2 or more different accounts you protect yourself from circumstances like being banned, terms of service changes and website closures.
If you lost 1 account for any reason you would at least have others to fall back on and hopefully still be earning enough to at least get you by.
You can use the same content on all the other platforms. There is a very low risk that the same fan may subscribe to two or more of your accounts but it is very low. Most fans stick to one platform, they follow several different creators and don't want to keep moving from one platform to the next so are unlikely to subscribe on two different platforms.
If they did then you just offer them a free month on their preferred platform to make up for paying for the same content twice, unless of course they are happy to support you by paying on both (I've had that before).
With the hundreds of millions of fans using all of the different sites you stand to get a lot more fans overall than you would sticking to just one platform. To me it's like having a chain of stores across the world as opposed to just a single store in one area.
Different platforms allow different content and have different restrictions. For example, Onlyfans do not allow peeing content yet
AdmireMe does. So, if that is one of your content types and a fan on Onlyfans wanted that content you could get them onto AdmireMe to provide it without risking the loss of your Onlyfans account.
I will be posting lots on information on other platforms in the near future. There will be information for websites similar to Onlyfans as well as others that may be of interest like clip stores and camming websites. All of these can add revenue streams to your work giving you even more peace of mind should the worst happen.
As Onlyfans have now gone back on their decision to stop sexually explicit content, well at least for the short term, this point is no longer valid.
However, should we all end up back in this situation later down the line, which is a distinct possibility given they have only 'suspended' the change of their acceptable use policy, then it will come in handy to remember these points.
With any changes to Onlyfans Terms or Policies they will be site wide and applicable to all creators. This means that no matter what those changes may be, we will all be working to the same rules.
If we all have to stop posting and selling sexually explicit content then no one has a advantage over another.
We will all be doing what we have already been doing and that's trying to attract what fans are left on the site with similar content. this makes things a little more even and more likely we will still gain new fans.
In fact, it could well be better news for some creators that don't go as far as some others.
As it stands now (without the ban on sexually explicit content) those that don't offer sexually explicit content will find it difficult to get fans that want that bit more in terms of explicitness.
But, if the rules change and they prevent any explicit content being posted at all then everyone will be working to your level of content creation which will mean you have a relatively equal chance at getting new fans as those that used to post more X-rated content.
For some, the proposed rule changes would have had no negative affect on their accounts whatsoever as they will be able to continue to work as they always have. It may even help them grow even more.
For others (like myself) it means we will have to adapt and start working to the new rules if we are to continue to work on Onlyfans.
I have mentioned it several times already but it is a valid point.
If you just delete your Onlyfans page or stop using it and only concentrate on your new platform you will be leaving money on the table. It is there, you earned it and you deserve it so make sure you take it.
Now, I am speaking as though the terms are still changing but we now know they are not. It is still worth remembering this for future reference should it all change again.
If you take into account all of the reasons mentioned above on why you shouldn't leave Onlyfans then it makes perfect sense to keep running your page as best as you can even if you are planning on leaving Onlyfans completely.
Use Onlyfans as a buffer while transitioning from Onlyfans to your new platform and use them to drive your fans to your new page. For a lot of fans this may take some time and repeated attempts so you need to stick around to convince them it is worth doing so.
The last thing you want to do is make life harder on yourself by having no money coming in from your new page or from Onlyfans. Keep doing what you can to keep the money coming in, it will save you worrying and stressing too much in the early days on your new platform.
When you have grown your new page to a sustainable level you can then decide whether it is worth it to remain on Onlyfans or not. At least by doing it this way you give yourself that choice.
Onlyfans have done the dirty on us before and they are likely to do so again, make sure when it happens it is on your terms rather than theirs and that you are ready for it, have something to fall back on when they do and you continue to earn some money no matter what happens!
I hope this helps you to prepare for the unexpected. If there is one thing we can be certain of it's sites like Onlyfans do not have our best interests at heart. Ultimately, they are businesses that want to use us to grow their platforms and as soon as they outgrow us we are discarded.
We are tied to their contracts that are totally in their favour and leave few rights to protect us or our income. They can restrict us, ban us, withhold our money and anything else they see fit and they don't even have to give us an explanation!
The only action we can really take is to protect ourselves by having multiple platforms and income avenues to make a living on. Only then can we not be held to ransom and have some sense of security.
If you have any questions or comments you would like to add please leave them in the comment section below, I would love to hear your views on the post and any other feedback you may have.
Good Luck!
